Collecting

I use this website to collect, and eventually syndicate, my thoughts and interesting links.

  1. Joining the gang at Homebrew Website Club Europe/London

Spending the evening hanging out with the welcoming and curious folks at #IndieWeb Homebrew Website Club Europe/London https://events.indieweb.org/2024/05/homebrew-website-club-europe-london-HJs8USwnq2Ie. Lots of demos of recent website updates and projects. I got some useful clarification on the difference between cross-posting and syndication. We went down the webmention and micropub rabbit hole. I’ve come away even more excited and confident about what I’m doing. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

  2. Disrupting Japan Podcast: How to sell innovation in cut-throat, low-margin industries

A fascinating conversation with the Elephantech startup that is changing the manufacturing of printed circuit boards (PCB) from a subtractive to additive by using ink-jet printing process; reducing waste and manufacturing costs and helping to make a much-needed decarbonisation shift in the tech industry.

  4. Screen printing with Gary Parselle

I had a really fun afternoon at Gary Parselle’s free screen printing workshop at the ABYSS Taproom in Lewes. Huge thanks to Gary of Brighton-based studio The Private Press https://www.theprivatepress.org/ for being so generous with their time and materials. I love my prints!

  5. I got webmentions working!

OMFG!!! I can finally say I’ve got #webmentions working on my #11ty website! I’ve tried loads of different tutorials but @chrisburnell@repc.co’s article https://chrisburnell.com/article/webmention-eleventy-setup/ and eleventy-cache-webmentions plugin https://chrisburnell.com/eleventy-cache-webmentions/ finally got me over the line. Thanks Chris! Now to ditch IFTTT and it’s shortened URLs and figure out POSSE auto-posting and write some ABSOLUTE BANGERS!!! // @henry@front-end.social

  6. Watching the #11tyConf

Really stoked to hear more about #11ty and POSSE on the #IndieWeb in Henry Desroches’s talk. Streaming live of YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLxJ6PtuF9M

  7. Tooltip: set your external monitor as main display #mac

Do you use an external monitor as your main display with your Mac? Ever get tired of turning your neck to read notifications or other dialog windows on your laptop screen? Here’s how to fix that. Got to System Preferences » Displays » Arrange. You should see two rectangles that reflect the position of your screens, one has a light grey bar at the top. Drag the light grey bar from the laptop to the display.

  8. Pool-side strategy

Relaxing pool-side reading Dan Hill’s Dark Matter and Trojan Horses – A Strategic Design Vocabulary. The content seems more relevant and pressing than ever. > There are no clients for these problems. Who is the client for climate change, except perhaps the entire human race? Clients purport to exist for many of these problems; sometimes too many clients, even, which is a different kind of problem.

  9. Children’s day

Happy Children's Day (こどもの日, Kodomo no hi) to all you grown up children. Get those carp windsocks (鯉のぼり, Koinobori) flying and make yourself or children a folded paper samurai helmet (兜, 冑, Kabuto) https://tavinsorigami.com/origami-kabuto/.
