1. A solution seeking a problem

   Kyoto based pottery studio Asahiyaki uses ~1000 pieces from its 400 year collection to train an neural network to generate new ideas for pottery pieces. Interesting but I can’t help but notice the affect on the design process as described by Matsubayashi Hosai the studio director.

3. May origami fold

   I spent this afternoon with some lovely people folding origami and chatting. This month’s fold was a modular design called a cyclone. We also made a spinner while waiting for our teriyaki chicken lunch to arrive.

5. AAA – An accessibly audit

   I was supposed to take the day off today. Instead I put my #GADD money where my mouth is and spent a couple of hours running an initial accessibility audit on my website using the Sa11y bookmarklet https://sa11y.netlify.app #accessibility #a11y

   

6. Research Thing Global Accessibility Awareness Day

   A superb couple of insightful and practical lunchtime talks from Gabe Fender from Thoughtworks and Emma Dyer from Alzheimer's Society. I’m a big fan of these midday brain-food sessions. #globalaccessibilityawarenessday

   

7. Joining the gang at Homebrew Website Club Europe/London

   Spending the evening hanging out with the welcoming and curious folks at #IndieWeb Homebrew Website Club Europe/London https://events.indieweb.org/2024/05/homebrew-website-club-europe-london-HJs8USwnq2Ie. Lots of demos of recent website updates and projects. I got some useful clarification on the difference between cross-posting and syndication. We went down the webmention and micropub rabbit hole. I’ve come away even more excited and confident about what I’m doing. Thanks for making me feel so welcome!

8. Screen printing with Gary Parselle

   I had a really fun afternoon at Gary Parselle’s free screen printing workshop at the ABYSS Taproom in Lewes. Huge thanks to Gary of Brighton-based studio The Private Press https://www.theprivatepress.org/ for being so generous with their time and materials. I love my prints!

   

9. I got webmentions working!

   OMFG!!! I can finally say I’ve got #webmentions working on my #11ty website! I’ve tried loads of different tutorials but @chrisburnell@repc.co’s article https://chrisburnell.com/article/webmention-eleventy-setup/ and eleventy-cache-webmentions plugin https://chrisburnell.com/eleventy-cache-webmentions/ finally got me over the line. Thanks Chris! Now to ditch IFTTT and it’s shortened URLs and figure out POSSE auto-posting and write some ABSOLUTE BANGERS!!! // @henry@front-end.social
